Sensas : « First of all, we would like to congratulate you Gavin and all your team, Sensas Ireland for your victory last week-end for the Irish Club Championship. Could you please let us know what was your strategy of all your team ? »
Gavin Walsh : « Thank you ! The Irish Championship for Clubs happened last week-end (19th&20th of August) in Enniskllen, on the River Erne. The River was coloured and increased in flow and water level due to a lot of rain before the weekend. Saturday and Sunday we fished a 6m line with River Monster floats from 2g to 6g , up to 4 inches overdepth and eased through the swim at half pace. This swim was on average 3m deep . We Also fished Pawel floats of 12g on this line . We fed 8 balls with 150ml of caster and some corn by hand and then cupped in 4 balls with 200ml of caster and 200ml of chopped worm and some dead pinkies.
We also fished a 12m line which on average was about 3.6m deep and this was fished with 6g and 8g River Monster floats fished up to 6 inches overdepth . We also fished Pawel and Stach flat floats of 20g up to 10 inches overdepth on this swim. This was fed with 10 balls by hand with 200ml of caster , a sprinkle of corn and dead pinkies. Then we cupped in 6 balls with 250ml of caster and 250ml of chopped worm.
The groundbait mix was 1 bag each of Super River Roach 10331 , Gros Gardons Black 00232 and River Black 71403 . We added 6kg of Terre De Riviere all mixed with Aromix Gardons Black . Nice sticky mix to carry lots of chopped worm and casters.
We started fishing on the 6m swim and on most sectors , this was the best swim during the day. There were lots of big fish caught on this line as the river was coloured and there was less speed of flow here.
On the second day we fished the same lines with similar amounts of feed . We cupped everything in on the second day as the river was a bit clearer and we expected some pike trouble !
