The UK Festival took place on July 5, 6 and 7 at the carpodrome in Fontenay sur Eure. After three rounds, victory went to Sjoerd Broekhuijsen. We asked him a few questions about how he managed to win this event!
Sensas : “Can you explain your strategy?”
With the training everything worked!! For that reason, I started briefly in the hope of quickly catching a number of fish with corn. After about an hour the bites dropped off. After that I continued fishing with hard pellets, when the bites started to decrease with the hard pellets, I switched to maggots.
Sjoerd Broekhuijsen ; “According to you, how did you managed to make the difference?
In my experience, the key has been to switch baits and fishing discantes at the right times. Furthermore, it was very important not to continue fishing in the same way when the fish did not want to bite, it was precisely at those moments that I always made adjustments in bait, distance or depth to keep catching fish.”
Sensas : “What kind of baits did you use?”
Sjoerd : “I mainly fished with 3 baits: corn, pellets and maggots”.
Sensas : “Could you please give us other tips?
Sjoerd : “Don't sit around waiting for your float to go under (keep actively looking for ways to catch)
- Do not fish with too thick elastics, I noticed that the fish have extremely soft mouths (I lost a number of bitten fish).
- The pond is quite deep in combination with wind, so choose a slightly heavier float (I mainly fished with 0.4 to 0.6).
